Sally Elcoate, Events Manager and Joint Managing Director – The front of house specialist, adding a personal service to every event to create the best possible version, in a timely, professional and effortless manner, Sally ensures that great food remains at the heart of Ginger Catering. A fully fledged Events Manager with 17 years’ experience working in award winning hotels and corporate business establishments including Southampton Football Club – where Sally met business partner Matthew! When she is not busy running around after the Ginger team delivering hampers and orchestrating tea parties, canapé do’s, weddings she embraces her local area.
“I am in love with the outdoors! I am an enthusiastic mountain trail biker, I love seasonal foraging and the challenge of making a half decent meal from very little. I enjoy being out on the Solent in all seasons fishing or boating & early morning forest runs”
Matthew Harris, Head Chef and Joint Managing Director – With over 25 years’ experience, having worked across hotels in the New Forest and other renowned establishments such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, Matthew bases his culinary point of view on British classics. A career highlight, which spanned 11 years, was working as the Head Chef at Southampton Football Club and building the reputation of the Premier League Club as a destination dining venue in the South of England. Taking inspiration from the local bounty of the New Forest in Hampshire, Matthew’s food is always well-crafted with diverse layering of flavours, colours and textures to offer clients and guests a memorable and satisfying bite whatever the special occasion.

After working for Ginger as part of their waiting staff team, I was thrilled when I was asked to join as a full-time employee. Having worked in various catering companies and hotels I hope to further develop and progress my skills as an Events Manager, under two incredible mentors! I love being able to bring joy and happiness to people through our amazing food and superb service.
Aside from my role at Ginger, I have a passion for horses – which makes working in the New Forest a dream! I have been lucky to be able to spend two summers working in America as a horse-riding instructor and when I can I volunteer at an Equine Therapy school, assisting the teaching of disabled and disadvantaged children to ride.
I’ve aspired to be a chef my whole life, since studying at a catering college at 16 I have progressed in my career to have worked in a Michelin star restaurant and held 2 AA Rosettes for 9 years before joining Matt, Sally and the team and Ginger Catering. I love that in being a chef, there is always something to learn, whether that be from veterans in the industry about technique and style or from new and upcoming chefs with innovative and fresh ideas.
I am a family-man and love spending time with my two young daughters, passing on my passion by cooking with them.
Working for Ginger, I feel a satisfaction like no other; the culmination of the end of the week, knowing that you have played a part in making someone’s special day that extra bit special and helped to create an enjoyable memory for them, that’s why I am passionate about this company
As a lover of great food, working for Ginger is a dream come true! Apart from being Chief Taster, I am the Finance Director and assist with the social media and marketing aspects of the business. When I’ve not got a calculator in my hand I love getting involved with the team, running events and experiencing first-hand the joy that our food can bring, utilising my hospitality experience that spans 20 years!
I’m married to Chef Matt and we have 2 gorgeous girls who keep us pretty busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love spending precious family time together when we get chance!
